Meet Your Neighbours
My work reflects the importance of the smaller creatures that are hidden in our surroundings.
Through my photography I reveal the thriving wildlife that is right on our doorsteps. I use a macro lens to capture the visually striking animals up close and personal. One of the techniques I use to enhance the beauty of these insects is called Meet Your Neighbours. It is a photography movement that consists of carefully placing a white piece of perspex behind the subject and lighting both the background and subject with the use of flashes. It is a non-invasive way to photograph them in their natural habitat as instead of moving the creatures to a studio I bring the studio to them. It isolates each individual so that it stands out against the background whilst prioritising its wellbeing.
